Glass-eyed.

Since I was seven, I’ve worn glasses - I’ve probably gone through more than 12 pairs. Most of them were hideous: thin, old-man frames coupled with thick round lenses. It was always a weird barrier for me, and made everyone seem very far away. Although somewhat insignificant in a country with incredibly high myopia rates, this affected me throughout my adolescent years, and it made me feel more awkward and ugly than any teenage girl should deserve to feel. It was a joy to finally get contact lenses.

Sometimes I wonder how much difference it would have made if I never had to wear them. Maybe the world would seem a little more perfect and maybe it would be easier to look people in the eye.

Anyway, I’m really glad that I am totally okay with my glasses now. They allow me to make pretentious bullshit sound convincing and smart, they make me feel like I sort of kick ass, and when I take them off, the lack of clarity and 20/20 vision makes everything look soft-focused and pretty.

Plus, who doesn’t want to look like the two most awesome women on television?
