Pocahontas isn’t quite as much of a classic as Beauty and the Beast is, or as thoroughly enjoyable as The Lion King, but you have to admit that the Colours of the Wind scene is one of Disney’s most beautifully crafted animation sequences.

Let the Right One In (2008)

I love this movie, but I don’t know what possessed me to watch it again tonight - a particularly creepy and stormy night - by myself. That hauntingly beautiful (and thoroughly disturbing) ending is going to be the image playing in my head right before I fall asleep.

So instead of working on my essay tonight, I had cereal and ice-cream for dinner and watched Anastasia, a decision that was totally worth it because I had almost forgotten how much I loved this movie as a kid. Sure, the story is a little formulaic, but Anastasia? Infinitely more kick-ass, feisty and sassy than any Disney Princess can claim to be. Plus Dimitri is way up there in my list of top childhood crushes.

Next up on my Childhood Movies to Watch list - The Land Before Time.
